Teacher Interview: Mr. Campisano

There is a great teacher who teaches at Torrey Pines High school. His name is Mr. Campisano. He is a great teacher in my life. He loves his students and cares about students. He is a math teacher and my Geometry teacher. I am glad to be in his class.

Mr. Campisano is a math teacher who loves his students. He also likes his English learner students. When they don’t understand some math problems, he always tries to help his students no matter what it takes and he spends his time and teaches his students. He is funny too. Sometimes, he jokes or plays with students. He is a nice guy. Also he is a super cool guy. He tries to be friends with his students. For example, he speaks some Spanish for his Mexican students. But he doesn’t speak Korean to me. He loves his students and cares about his students.
I asked him “What do you think about how knowledge opens doors?” he answered, “When you don’t have enough knowledge, you have ignorance. Ignorant people can’t find success in their life.” He also thinks math can open the doors of knowledge. I asked him, “How can math help to open knowledge’s doors? And he answered, “It has both a practical application and helps your brain get exercise so it can open knowledge’s doors.”

He thinks he can also learn from students. Mr. Campisano said, “I can learn from students. I can learn their cultures and countries from my ELD students. I am happy to teach ELD students. I learn from Mr. Campisano. I learned how to solve a cube from him. He wants to teach something for his students.

He is the greatest teacher I have ever met. He is really nice to ELD students. I have learned a lot from him. He cares about students and he really wants to teach perfectly for his students. He is a great teacher. I will not forget him in my life.

Teacher Interview: Ms. Hendricks
Knowledge is an Opportunity

How does knowledge open doors? I believe everyone has different answers in their mind. For Miss Hendricks, she thinks knowledge gives her a comfortable life and led her to reach her dream. However, she also thinks knowledge can direct people in the wrong way.

“Knowledge is an opportunity to experience and learn things.” Miss Hendricks said. She thinks that knowledge helps her a lot in daily life such as respecting others, maintaining health and managing money. The most important thing is it can help you to make a good decision. Knowledge gives you the ability to analyze what is wrong and right. It helps to open a correct door and walk in a correct way. Knowledge prevents us from getting lost and gives us a short cut to achieve the goal.

To Miss Hendricks, her dream is to teach the new generations, and knowledge helps her to reach her dream. She wants to teach her students to become global citizens so that they can think in different views. She wants to help them to open the door of knowledge so they can make a good decision for themselves and the society in the future. When students absorb new knowledge, they can walk into the World by themselves and open their mind to a new, different World.

To some extent, knowledge can lock the door if it is used in a wrong way. Knowledge can be used to make atomic bombs and weapons which are danger to the World. Miss Hendricks believes “Ignorance is bliss.” Once you don’t know and see something new, you could admire it but not think about the dark side of it. Knowledge gives you courage to learn and ignorance gives you interest to learn.

Knowledge is a key to open the door of paradise and the door of hell. Miss Hendricks uses her knowledge to open the door of paradise. She uses it in a correct way and gives her a comfortable life. Knowledge gives her the power to think and act individually. It gives us the confidence to face others and solve problems.

Teacher Interview: Mrs. Serrano
Don’t Be Shy Learning English
In the world, there are different kinds of knowledge. We make choice with our knowledge. I think teachers are a kind of learning. They always teach us many information.

For Mrs. Serrano, she wants to use her knowledge be an English teacher. She thinks teaching student’s English is very happy. She can help them learn more English. I asked Mrs. Serrano about why she didn’t teach another subject. She told me, she really likes to teach English, she has experiences teaching English learner too. She said if she were given another choice, she would still choose to become an English teacher.

Mrs. Serrano is ELDI,II teacher. Most of her students just can speak easy words. Sometimes, some student can’t understand English. She always helps them to understand what’s she’s talking about. In class, she often tell students” if you want to improve your English, you should speak more English.” I was her student last year. I was shy when I was in ELD II. Mrs. Serrano always told me “don’t be shy, don’t care about people are thinking, if you are shy, if you care, your English never improve.” In ELD I, II students often asked Mrs. Serrano how they can help them English improve. Her answer is by speaking more English, practicing more English, watching TV and listening English song. Sometimes, Mrs. Serrano teaches ELD students which listen to music and singing. Many students like this way of learning English;

What is the difference between an ELD and a regular class? ”ELD is learning generally English, but student in a English class are learning more literature.” Mrs. Serrano said. Though she teaches regular class, she still loves to teach ELD, because she likes to see how much her student grow up and learn English. Also she can learn more culture from her students of different countries.

Mrs. Serrano is a good teacher. She likes to teach student. Though sometimes she feels tried, she didn’t abandon teaching every student. She sues different ways to teach English. She hopes her all students can have success learning English.

Teacher Interview: Mr. Nogle

Do you think knowledge is important?

Do you think knowledge is good for you? How can knowledge open the door? Perhaps there are many answers in the world.

Mr. Nolge said, "Knowledge is so important. You can make your life easy. You can know more about everything. “Your life needs knowledge to keep going. If you don’t have any knowledge, your, your life is already stopped and cannot go as fast as you can.

Mr. Nogle said “every student needs to get knowledge and everybody needs to get knowledge too.” Knowledge is not only for student. It is for everybody. If you have good knowledge, maybe you will become a good person. But if you have bad knowledge maybe you will become a bad person. For example: play games all day, steal money or do many bad things. So we need to see what knowledge you need and what knowledge you get.

Knowledge can follow you. Mr. Nogle agrees:’ knowledge can go with you everywhere “For example, when you go to work, you can use your knowledge. When you go to other countries, you can still use your knowledge. It is very helpful for your future. Everything starts from knowledge. So it helps the new generation.

Finally, knowledge can be good or bad, it just depends on you. What do you do for your knowledge? Everything is just in your hands and it can be possible or impossible. It depends on how you see your knowledge.

Teacher Interview: Mrs. Hendricks

When Mrs.H walked into Torrey Pines at lunch time, she was surprised to see how the students were sitting. They were sitting in ethnic groups. Mrs.H did not want to see that. Since then, she has made it her goal to help the students understand each other’s culture. For her, knowledge is understanding and it reduces fear for the unknown. So knowledge can break racism and this knowledge can lead to further opportunities.
Mrs.H is a passionate history teacher. She insists that students have to learn the mistakes of the past to not repeat. War is good example for explaining. If students learn about world history, they will learn about effects of war. War caused a lot of damage that called the sacrifice of people and wasted natural resources. This damage gave give mental and physical hurt. Those effects block us from developing our society. If students know these efforts, they will be careful and try to not undergo that. So I agree Mrs.H’s opinion that students have time to learn to not redo the mistake.
Mrs.H also believes that knowledge helps us to know the other countries’ culture and to build mutual respect. For example, For Philippines and Saudi Arabia, burping is manner after eating good meals, but America is not. If people do not know about the other culture, they can think that the other counties do not have good manners. On the contrary, if they know, and understand them, they can have respect for the other cultures. Mrs.H knows this problem, if students do not learn about the other cultures. So she thinks that students have to be taught about mutually mutual respect.
Human relationships are convenient means of indirect experience. Sometimes they are better than books, because students can ask questions and get answers right away. Increasing awareness and building mutual respect inspires the students to be open minded. If students have friends from different cultures, they can get a variety of information from the friends. Students can use this information to their assignments. In other words, being open minded gives more opportunities and ideas.
When Mrs.H saw ethnic groups, she realized that she needed to help students connect with each other. When she teaches about class, she tries to teach us to respect each other at the same time. So she asserts that knowledge is understanding and it gives courage to overcome the unknown.

Teacher Interview: Mrs. Serrano

Is English important? Mrs. Serrano says “If you learn English it will help you in your future and you would get better opportunities.” Is it good to work on a job that you don’t like? She says “Never get a job that you’re not satisfied, and if you’re there for the money it is not worth it.” I’m going to talk about why Mrs. Serrano picked to be a high school teacher and not a higher teacher.

Mrs. Serrano studied in Spain and there she learned her second language Spanish. Meanwhile she taught in a community college, but she really wanted “to teach younger people because she thinks that younger people needed her more than adults.” So she moved here to a public school. Students needed a person like her; someone capable of speaking two languages.

Every student that passes that class is really thankful for all the time she puts on every student. Right now we need teachers like her because the majority of teachers in the schools are there for the money not for the future of everyone. Like she said, “Adults don’t need me; younger people do.” She is an excellent example of a productive teacher. The type of teaching she gives to her students is not hard but it is challenging. That’s great a great type of teaching and a great way to learn a new language.

The great thing about Mrs. Serrano is that she is an ELD teacher so she has a lot of experience to work with people that don’t have any English. She works extra hard to help them. On the whiteboard on her classroom she always draws to help the students with the vocabulary. And her classroom is full of pictures and posters. That way the students can understand their problems. Meanwhile the students are working with their class work she is always walking around to see if they need help and if the students are struggling with something.

I know all of that because I used to be one of her students. And she really helps me out with my struggling and my vocabulary. I really appreciate all her hard work that she gives to everyone. So thank you Mrs. Serrano for all your time I wish you good luck with everything.

Teacher Interview: Mr. Rall
“Science Is Art”

How many of do you think science is important for life? I know it sounds like a stupid question but it is really impressive to see how many people believe science is useless. A few years ago I was one of them. I used to say science is boring, stupid, and useless, nobody wants to know about that. But I was in completely wrong because I did not know anything about science! How could I say all those things? Now my concept is different, science for me is really important for life and I met someone who believes me. His name is Michael Rall, He is my teacher of science in TP, He is a cool person, smart and a really good teacher.

A few weeks ago I had a interview with him, the main theme was science. I started my interview with the next question, “How do you think science gives you knowledge? I was expecting a scientific answer like “Science is the root of the bla.. bla…” But his answer gave me a new way of seeing the meaning of the word science. “Science is the art of the exploration, science explores the world”.

In one of his answer he told me, “ I think that knowledge is a way of thinking, that is constructive trough experience and social interaction” I know that is true because I can see how he, with his knowledge, can talk with everybody about everything that you can imagine, sport, ghosts, family, school everything! One of the things that help him is all his knowledge about life and science.

He also explained to me knowledge helps you to improve interesting things to talk about and discuss other ideas people have about the world. I agree with him because I already have experienced that. When you know more about everything, people respect you and listen to you and you can meet many people and many good friends.

Talking with him was wonderful. I could learn interesting factors of life in one morning just because when you talk with him you travel to a new world, to his world. Thanks to him now I have a new concept of science. “Science is Art” and I am ready to learn it!
